Alexander Macdonald of Glenaladale erected this monument in the beautiful setting of Loch Shiel in 1815 in commemoration of the Highlanders who fought and died for Bonnie Prince Charlie. It was here his standard was raised on 19 August 1745.

In addition to climbing the monument there is a permanent display and audio presentation of the Jacobite rising in the visitor centre.
